World AIDS Day 2009

World AIDS Day - December 1, 2009

AVAC and IAVI, together with the Global HIV Vaccine Enterprise,
invite you to a symposium to explore recent progress and
future directions in AIDS vaccine research and development.

Date:  December 1, 2009

Time:  4:00 pm - 7:00 pm EST.  Refreshments will be provided.

Venue:  IAVI, 110 William St., 27th Floor, New York, NY, 10038

Important progress has been made in the AIDS vaccine field over the past few months. Results from an efficacy trial in Thailand, known as RV144, showed a vaccine benefit in humans for the first time. What’s more, promising findings from other preclinical and clinical AIDS vaccine research were released in late October at the AIDS Vaccine Conference in Paris, France. Together, the wealth of data presented at the Paris conference represents significant momentum in the search for a preventive AIDS vaccine.

This special event, which marks World AIDS Day, will include a discussion of the implications of recent trial results, explore the significance of recent advances made and discuss the next steps in the journey to develop and AIDS vaccine.  The symposium will feature two presentations: an Update on Clinical Trials and a Discussion on Upstream HIV Vaccine Research and Development. Lisa Beyer, Vice President of Communications at IAVI, will then moderate a panel discussion featuring diverse experts on the state of the field.
